Cool new editor features

April 6th, 2012 by Sirp

I’ve been adding some cool new features to Frogatto’s editor, to make it easy to get instant feedback on how well features in a level work as we add them. Check out this video I’ve made which shows off the new features:

this editor thing is better than virtual reality!
make a shmup + editor next.
frogatto is the best platformer in a long long time
    congrats.

Wow, this must be the best level editor i’ve ever seen.
I also like the details like syntax highlighting in the source box and the slider and the scheme of frogatto. Must have been a good piece of work implementing it. Keep it up.. 😉

very impressive. That matches the level of the best professional tools I’ve seen on youtube so far.

BTW: Is it possible to build a complete total conversion mod with FFL and FML *cough WML cough* alone and create a game like, let’s say pacman?

BTW2: If that’s the case, could you put much effort in documenting those? I know that’s much to ask for, but at least some complete reference would be gold.

  5. Sirp says:

T-Type: YES, it is absolutely possible to build a total conversion. Check out this preview footage of a totally different kind of game DDR is making with the Frogatto engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7OMc4HwYS8

We have some documentation available in our wiki ( https://github.com/frogatto/frogatto/wiki ) — but yes we need more.

I’m currently working on several features to make total conversions and mod-making more accessible. Stay tuned for details!

    Whoa, this video is amazing.
Thanks, Sirp, i’ll definily stay tuned.

Excellent implementation of Victor’s examples. Glad to hear it’s open source, hope the project will benefit a lot from that. Keep it going ! 🙂

This is mind blowing from a technical perspective! I am a programmer that would love to understand how this works backstage, any tips on where to start? will there be a blog post about it?

On a side note, nice to learn that there is an open source project such as this, amazing work.

  9. Sirp says:

@Jack: I will try to write a blog post when I have time … however always feel free to come talk to us on our forums or on #frogatto on irc.freenode.net — we’re always trying to get more people involved. 🙂
